On Wednesday I headed to Hamilton. A purposeful trip to collect a new motorcycle and return to Nelson - officially breaking the shackles of lockdown. It was also a time to ponder widespread changes as the wind swept past. And, as it turned out, to experience directly the impact of Covid on the hospitality and tourism sectors in New Zealand.

Ambassador Chef, Damon McGinniss of Emporium Bar & Eatery hosted his Ambassador Series recently as part of the Hawke's Bay Winter F.A.W.C! Damon has been an Ambassador Chef three times during his career and with his talent and skill he transformed some very humble cuts of beef and lamb into a stunning five course degustation. The event was titled Grass & Gravel and paid homage to New Zealand’s grass raised beef and lamb. Damon also matched each course with a delicious Syrah grown in the gravelly soil of Hawke's Bay.
